Interlaken

A traditional holiday town in the Bernese mountains

Interlaken is a traditional holiday town in the Bernese mountain region of Oberland in central Switzerland. Built on a narrow strip of the valley, between the lakes of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, it is located on the river Aare. Its surrounding mountains, covered with dense forests, alpine meadows, and glaciers, have numerous hiking and ski trails.

An international holiday and congress venue, Interlaken is an ideal starting point for many excursions. More than 45 mountain trains, gondolas, cable cars, chairlifts, and ski lifts transport visitors to 200 kilometers of slopes and an extensive network of walking routes. Many boats sail on the lakes of Thun and Brienz, including historic steamboats.
